History

Dębowy Hotel built is 1904 used to be a factory owner’s villa. This building was a property which belonged to Dr Wolfgang Dierig- a member of the family owning the “Christian Dierig” industry founded in 1805, which by the Second World War expanded into the biggest textile concern in Silesia (Śląsk). Construction works were supervised by K. Berthold from Niemcza, Poland.

Members of the Dierig family were also the owners of a considerable part of ground and buildings in Bielawa.
Next to a plaque on the south elevation of the building showing a date “1904” there are also “W” and “L” initials. It’s likely that they refer to Wolfgang and his wife, but unfortunately her name still remains unknown. This interpretation is drawn form other elements (medallions with the portraits of a man and a woman on the wings of the front door) which create a sort of an iconographic integrity.

Villa in 4 Korczaka Str. was erected in a northern Neo-Renaissance style, which was very popular from the 1880s in Silesian residencial architecture.

After 1945 the villa and few other buildings were adapted for the requirements of the sanatorium for children with respiratory diseases.
In 2001 the villa was bought by the current proprietors with the intention to convert it into a hotel. That required carrying out a major overhaul.

In 2002 the hotel became the prizewinner of the 7nd edition of the competition and got the “Modernization of Year 2002” title.
