Latino for Two Pianos To welcome the new year, the Sudeten Philharmonic in Wałbrzych invites audiences on a musical journey to Latin America. Acclaimed pianist Anna Rutkowska-Shock will join forces with Australian–South American composer and pianist Daniel Rojas. Together, they will perform music by Piazzolla, Bernstein and Rojas. The rhythms of tango, salsa and mambo can be enjoyed on 12 January. Granica Hiking Rally – Winter Patrol On 18 January, a hiking rally combining beautiful scenery with local history will take place. The 20-kilometre route includes highlights such as the old “Kamyki” quarry and the Border Guards’ Chairs. The trail follows a picturesque section of the national border once guarded by soldiers of the Border Protection Troops and later by Border Guard officers stationed at the former Bartnica watchtower, which operated from 1945 to 2008. 10 Years of the Silver Run Mountain Race The Silver Run celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. This major mountain-running event is scheduled for Saturday, 17 May in Srebrna Góra. It is a great opportunity to test your fitness and, after crossing the finish line, visit the highest mountain fortress in Europe. Participants can look forward to attractive race packages, a tour of the Srebrna Góra Fortress Museum, concerts and an anniversary celebration. Funds raised during the event will support charitable causes, including free extracurricular physical education activities for children and young people from children’s homes. Sowi Bieg The next edition of the night-time street race through Dzierżoniów will take place on 24 May. This year, participants can expect even more attractions. In addition to certified 5 km and 10 km running routes, the organisers have introduced two new categories: a 5 km Nordic Walking event and an inline-skating race. These competitions will take place before the main run. Races for children and young people are also planned at the Municipal Stadium in Dzierżoniów. Góry Literatury Festival This event attracts not only local literature enthusiasts, but also culture lovers from across Poland. The 11th edition of the Góry Literatury Festival will take place from 4 to 13 July and will undoubtedly be one of the most important literary events in the country. The festival is held in Lower Silesia, a region that is itself a source of inspiration for many writers and artists. It offers an opportunity to meet favourite authors, exchange ideas and inspiration, and immerse yourself in the world of literature away from the hustle and bustle of large cities. Sudety Cup The fifth edition of the Sudety Cup orienteering competition will take place at the turn of July and August. All stages of this year’s event will be held in the Owl Mountains, on terrain never previously used for orienteering competitions. It is a unique opportunity to test your skills on completely new routes. Challenging competition and spectacular views are guaranteed. Bielawa CROSS Triathlon Another edition of Bielawa’s popular cross-triathlon is coming. Competitors will take on 750 metres of swimming, 22 kilometres of mountain biking and a 5-kilometre run. The organisers will also introduce a second, longer-distance route. The event will take place on 16 August. Further details and registration information will be announced soon. Bike Maraton in Bielawa Bielawa aspires to become a true capital of mountain biking, so it is no surprise that the town is part of one of Poland’s largest MTB event series. Reaching Wielka Sowa, Kalenica or Rymarz is a serious challenge, especially as September weather in the mountains can be difficult to predict. It is worth planning your training now to prepare for the race on 6 September. Flavours of the Owl Mountains More festivals and fairs featuring local producers from the Owl Mountains are sure to appear in this year’s events calendar soon.
